UK: Trying the recipe from Reunion, France

Children in Key stage 1, and some parents who came to our comenius presentation, tried the cari poulet recipe from our partner school in Reunion.

When we got the ingredients together we weren't sure if we would like it as fresh ginger wasn't something we were used to using, and tumeric was different too. The garlic cloves also smelt a bit strong!

Mrs. Manning and Mrs. McHaffie helped us cut up the chicken, onions, garlic, ginger and tomatoes. It was fun crushing the garlic and ginger, but we gave up (after squashing for nearly 15 minutes) with trying to make it into a smooth paste, so ours was slightly lumpy.

We used the portable oven so we made this in our classroom. We did some other work whilst we waited for it to cook, but the lovely smell kept distracting us.

When it was ready, Mrs. Manning wasn't sure that it looked all that much like the cari poulet that Olivier had cooked when she and Mrs. Bowley were in the Reunion Island, but we tried it with rice anyway.

Only a few of us wanted to try it to begin with as we were a bit nervous about trying something different. However, when those children started making 'mmm' sounds, we all wanted to try it.
Only one person didn't try it and that was because he didn't eat chicken.

Everyone agreed that it was absolutely delicious and some people's mums asked for the recipe so they could try it at home.

Thank you very much for this recipe Ecole de sans Souci - we loved it!
