Recycling in Finland (Mutalan koulu)

Tampere Regional Solid Waste Management is the company which is responsible for waste collection in Tampere and Tampere Region.

Local drop-off collection points for recyclable waste are usually located near grocery stores, marketplaces and one of the collection points is in the Mutalan koulu`s backyard.

In these photos below you can see some examples of our collection points.

You can return used batteries to the shops or special red-coloured collection bins.

You can return your clear and coloured bottles and jars hear. Porcelain, ceramics and lightbulls are not suitable for glass collecting. Returnable bottles should be taken to shops on Alko.

For example tins and aluminium trays should be taken to drop-off collection points or to metal collection bin.

At our school we collect dry and clear paper, newspapers, magazines and advertisements...

...and take them to a paper collection bin.

In the backyard we also have a biowaste collection bin. There you can put kitchen waste like food, leftovers, fruit and vegetables peels, coffee filters and teabags etc.

Broken furnitures, hazardous waste, rubble from home improvement projects and scrap electronics must be taken to eco-centres or solid waste management sites. There are also special lorries drive aroud the city and collect household hazardous waste and scrab metal.
Outdated medicines, broken thermometers and needles should be taken to a chemist shop.
Recycling centres take goods that you don`t need anymore but are undamaged and potential use to other people.
Flea markets are also popular in Finlanf.
