A Story of a Wolf Cub

I stood gazing in wonder at the blue, green and red swirls of the majestic Northern lights. As I walked back to the hut, the crunch of snow became louder. But, just at that moment, I realized that it was not just my footsteps, but there was a wolf cub following me!

“You look cold!” I said. “Come with me, I’ll give you food and warmth.”

With that I scooped the cub up into my arms and took him home.

After my dinner, I scooped up the leftovers into a small bowl for the cub. The cub tucked in and never stopped eating.

“Since you’ll be moving in with me, I think I’ll call you…” I thought long and hard. “How about Will?”

Then my mum said, “That’s a lovely name – Will it is!”

The next day, my dad and I had to go logging as we were short of wood for the fire. Right at the last minute, I asked my mum if I could take Will with me.

She replied, “Well, OK then, but be careful with him and make sure he gets back in one piece.”

After a long trek across the frozen lake, and into the woods, we found a great lumbering spot. In the background we could see Will playing around in the snow; he was truly having a great time. He loved to skate his small feet on the frozen lake. A couple of times he fell over onto his furry back, but it was nothing serious.

When we came home, we were met by the heavenly smell of mum’s freshly made berry pie. After we had eaten some tasty ham and potato casserole and finished off the pie, we sat down and started talking, whilst the cozy flames of the fire warmed us up.

Halfway through the conversation, we were interrupted by Will’s howling so we raced to see what it was for. The majestic blue colours of the Northern lights had caught his eye – they really were a beautiful sight. Suddenly we heard an answering howl from the edge of the woods. Racing around in circles, Will stopped, then scratched at the door. Opening it, we watched as he hurtled towards a shadow in the trees. Moonlight shone down on a female wolf – Will had found his mother again.

Visit to Gheorghe Titeica School, Romania

During our half term break my son Ross (who is a pupil at Springfield Primary) and I visited our partner school in Constanta. We left the Uk on Wednesday,amidst grey clouds and rain, and were rather happy to find it was 26 degrees and sunny when we landed in Bucharest. It took over 2 and a half hours, by car, to get to Constanta, but we enjoyed looking at many places along the way.



It was our first visit to Romania, but having seen such beautiful places and received such a warm welcome, I am sure it won't be our last. We were overwhelmed with how friendly all the staff, pupils and parents were, and we enjoyed trying all the food that was made for us - even if there was so much of it!






The pupils at the school are wonderful. Ross enjoyed visiting the classes and talking to the pupils. He was impressed by their english. I think he enjoyed feeling so important when the children wanted to ask him questions.







We would once again like to say a big thank you to everyone who made our visit so enjoyable and I am sorry we couldn't stay longer because Romania is a wonderful place :o)

UK - Year 6 work

Hello

We are Mrs. Tyler's class and we are a mixed class of year 5 and year 6 children. We are either 9, 10 or 11 years old.

We have been learning about the Greeks this term and really enjoyed making Greek masks. It was fun thinking of our own mythical creature. Here are some of our masks.

Also we have been studying a film called 'Ratatouille' in our literacy lessons. We had to look closely at the characters and think about events. our school is involved in a project called 'From screen to page' so we have practised writing sentences for different camera angles, light, sound and colour and shape.

Here we are showing the work on display in our classroom.

Something else we have enjoyed recently was when a teacher from China came to visit us and taught us how to do chinese paper art. We made some great butterflies! Even Mrs. Tyler made one and she was very proud of it. In fact she was so pleased with it that she sneaked it onto our display board!

Uk - Class DM and RA news

Hello Friends

At the moment year 1 and 2 children are doing a topic on China. We have watched the film Mulan as it is set in China and we have written poems and descriptions using scenes from it.
Here is some of our work:-

We also looked at some Chinese art and tried to do our own in the same style.





Very soon a Chinese teacher is coming in to tell us more about what it is like to go to school in China and she might teach us how to say some things in Chinese. We are really looking forward to that.

Uk: Christmas Play Week

We are class DS at Springfield Primary School. We are 4 and 5 years old. This week we have been performing our Christmas play. It is called 'Happy Birthday Jesus'.

Here are some pictures of us rehearsing and in our costumes.

We really enjoyed singing our songs as our mummies and daddies were very proud of us.

On Wednesday we walked to church. We found out how people who go to church celebrate Christmas.

We really liked the stained glass windows.

After we saw the pretty windows we decorated our classroom and put up our Christmas tree.

UK: Year 1 learn about the past at Springfield Primary

This week Class JW have been finding out about what homes were like 100 years ago. There was no electricity to make the appliances work.

Naomi is holding an iron. "It's very heavy" she says. We learned that the iron had to be warmed on the range, which is like a cooker and fire in one, then you could iron some clothes until it cooled down, then you had to warm it up again so you could iron more clothes.

Jordan is holding a carpet beater.This was used to clean rugs and mats before there were hoovers. Toby and Alex are showing a "washing dolly."

This is made of wood. You had to twist and turn it in the tub

of clothes that need to be washed. "It must have been very hard work for mum."

I'm sure mum prefers that washing machine she has today.

Maisie and Bethany are looking at

It is heavy. It is made of pottery. It has a stopper in the top so you can fill it up.

We learned it was a bed warmer. You fill it up with hot water then put it in your bed to make it feel warm when you get in it as there was no heating in the bedroom.

UK: Guy Fawkes and the gunpowder plot

This week on November 5th we celebrated 'Bonfire Night'.
On November 5th 1605 a group of men planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament with 36 barrels of gunpowder. They wanted to kill the King and the members of parliament who they felt were making life difficult for catholics at that time.

Guy Fawkes was sent to hide in the cellars of the Houses of Parliament, but he was caught and arrested before he could set light to the gunpowder.



On the very night that the Gunpowder Plot was stopped, on November 5th, 1605, bonfires were set alight to celebrate the safety of the King. Since then, November 5th has become known as Bonfire Night. The event is celebrated every year with fireworks and burning dummies of Guy Fawkes on a bonfire.



There is also a rhyme about Guy fawkes:

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder treason and plot.
We see no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!

Guy Fawkes, guy, t'was his intent
To blow up king and parliament.
Three score barrels were laid below
To prove old England's overthrow.

By god's mercy he was catch'd
With a darkened lantern and burning match.
So, holler boys, holler boys, Let the bells ring.
Holler boys, holler boys, God save the king.

And what shall we do with him?
Burn him!

Some of us had fireworks in our gardens and some of us are going to see firework displays at the weekend.

UK: Class AB, Year 1

Hi there!

We are in Year 1 and the name of our class is Class AB. We are 5 and 6 years old. We have been learning about the Comenius project - this is us looking at the blog to see what everyone has been up to all across Europe:

It is very exciting to learn about your schools - we thought it was interesting that some of you do not have to wear school uniform like we do.
This half term we have been working on a project called 'Going Wild'. The week beginning the 20th October was our last week of the project. Here are some of the things we have been doing:

This is us and some art work we, and other infant classes, have made.

We made, painted and decorated australian animals. We looked at Aboriginal paintings that were made using dots. We used cotton buds to paint on our dots. Here are some close-ups of our work.

We have also been learning a dance based on a book we read called 'Handa's Surprise'. In the story naughty animals steal Handa's juicy fruit from her basket. Can you guess what animals we are being here?

Dressing up day, UK

Hi

On Friday 24th October the PTA organised a dressing up day at our school. Although halloween isn't until October 31st, we mainly came in halloween costumes because we are on school holiday when it's actually halloween. Everyone paid a pound to come in costume. We had a lot of fun looking at each others costumes and the best one in each class got a prize. Our teachers swapped and went to judge someone else's class as the decision was very difficult!
