Solar cookers

We were all in our classroom writing the summary, when we were all surprised to see written on the board: "project activity: solar cookers - renewable energy." We were very intrigued, but the curiosity increased a lot when Marisa said: - Let's go to the playground, there’s a surprise waiting for you. When we’ve arrived there, we saw something that we had never seen before... Then we heard: - Hello, I am Joana and this is Yassin, and today, we'll teach you how to make a solar cooker. Have you ever heard about solar cookers? - No! – All the children answered. - ok that’s what I suppose ,so A solar cooker is cooker that receives the sunlight and then heats and cooks the food. Yassin and me, on sunny days, we actually prepare our own food using only these cookers- said Joana. They also told us that Solar cooking is the simplest, safest, most convenient way to cook food without consuming fuels or heating up the kitchen. Many people choose to solar cook for these reasons. So, Joana and Yassin taught us how to make a solar cooker. Honestly we did not quite understand very well how to make it, because there were many folds and many measures, but then we’ve realized that was something like a hand-held cardboard with aluminum inside, that it could reach at least 250 degrees and that way it allowed to cook food, without any need to spent normal energy. It was very interesting! Then they left, and we were sure we made 2 new friends…I am sure they will be back, and will teach us something new. Thank you so much Joana and Yassin! Cheers!

The very next day, Marisa told us that we would make sweet pumpkin compote using the solar cooker. We were just delighted…great idea, all the children said. So we did it, we’ve used a black pot, and we added sugar, cinnamon, lemon peel and obviously small pieces of pumpkin and then we took the pot into the solar cooker. Of course we have tasted it, and it was just magnificent, so we want to thank so much to Joana and Yassin for their great workshop, and the way they taught the benefits of using new sources of energy…

You can find more information about this important issue in the internet, here are some the links:
